Do teenagers come from a different time zone?
Why don"™t they just turn out the lights, go to bed and get a good nights sleep and have normal sleep patterns like the rest of us?
Experience tells us that its probably just too much to hope for!
More likely they have to be prised semi conscious from their beds in the morning only to sleepwalk between classes and fall asleep during double history, willing victims of a 24 hour society.
But if teenagers are refugees from a different biological time zone then by making them get up and go to school before their bodies are ready we are not just making school and college life difficult for them and their teachers we are also putting them at risk.
At the heart of this problem is their circadian clock, the bodys 24 hours biological clock which is naturally programmed to respond to natural light cues that send the body to sleep at night and wake the body at sunrise.
These natural light cues especially during the autumn and winter months are at complete odds with normal school or college routines and the result is a semi permanent state of lethargy, fatigue, moodiness and irritability.
Being a teenager is a tiring business.
But theres a great simple solution. SUNRISE ALARM CLOCKS. The worlds most natural wake up call. Gently and slowly the light alarm clock brightens to simulate a sunrise, and slowly instinctively they stir and awaken with their bodyclocks in complete harmony with their sleep and wake cycles.
The result is more energy, less fatigue, less moodiness and irritability and better mental alertness and physical stamina and endurance.
